Perhaps a few 100ms delays may solve this. Perhaps a glitch reading the RTC over the I2c bus. Bug.Occasionally the File Date is nonsense! (i.e.5th May 2039) No idea why this is. The adapters are often poor quality and the micro-SD cards sometimes vibrated loose. I had some trouble using micro SD cards with an adaptor. Strangely I don't need the reversal when using an RS232 to USB adapter so take care here. For some reason I had to reverse pins 2&3 to get things working.

I mounted the RS232 - TTL converter on the top of the SD card adapter to make a compact unit.Ĭonnect using the RJ11 lead that came with the Jolt plus a Male to male RS232 lead. Early Megajolts (Before Ver 4) communicated at 4800 baud. Select the correct MAP statement for Normally-Aspirated or Turbocharged engine.(Default Normal-Asp.)ģ. Set the number of cylinders for your engine in the rpm_calc line.(Default is 4 cylinders.) Same as pressing the SpaceBar in Megajolt, * Connect A0 to ground via push button - places a marker on the log.

* Green LED1 illuminates when you press the MARK button.ġ2 Leds (I used Green, Yellow, Red) with 1K ohm series resistors. * The three Red leds flash on boot-up if the SD card is not in, or can't be written to. They provide visual feedback and that the thing is actually reading data from the megajolt.

The logger will work perfectly well without them but, even if you are not so good at soldering try and find someone to add these for you.

I used the prototype area on the SD card to add some LEDs. * Your Log files are named by the rtc when the Arduino is startedĪ new file is created every time the Arduino is started. * The Megalog sketch has no means of setting the time. Set your Real Time Clock and check the time is correct using the Arduino examples. This way you can be sure your SD card works. Use the Arduino examples to become familiar with the SD card operations, Reading & Writing to your SD card. Push button connected to A0 places a marker on the datalog (Same as pressing the spacebar when logging with the Megajolt Configurator.) LEDs act as a crude Rev Counter and provide feedback the unit is actually reading data.

Also using Windows Excel or LibreOffice in Linux. Your log files may be displayed in the Megajolt Configurator using -įile Open_Datalog. This converts the Megajolt RS232 levels down to 5V suitable for an Arduino.ĭata is stored in the same format as Megajolt Configurator Log Files on an SD card. Sometimes known as Arduino data Logger Shield.Ī MAX232 RS232 level converter from ebay for 3 or 4 pounds. About 5 Pounds on EbayĪ combined SD card/Real RTime Clock sheild for about 5 Pounds from ebay. in fact, the most expensive and valuable part is probably the SD memory card. It sits on the floor or in the glove box and is almost a disposable item as the componets are so cheap these days.

The Megajolt configurator Data Logging option works perfectly however, driving around in a soft-top car with a laptop sitting on the passenger seat is not ideal.Įvery time you want to go into a shop to buy milk or even just pay for fuel, leaving a laptop on the seat is a little vulnerable.Īn Arduino easily takes care of the simple task of data logging and they are as cheap as chips Next, I wanted to do some long term data logging.

The Air/Fuel Monitor output is connected to the Megajolt Aux input and the Megajolt software does a great job of recording its output for logging and tuning purposes. Rose for welding the bung into my exhaust. I installed a PLX Wideband Air Fuel Co2 monitor.
